One person who was killed in a shooting involving Oklahoma City Police officers on Friday has been identified, the department said.
Oklahoma City Police said that they responded to a mental health call involving a man walking in the street with a gun shortly after 3 a.m. near Southeast 74th Street and South Sooner Road.
OCPD said three officers, identified as James Doran, Joshua Geerdes and Jimmy Hatfield, all of whom have spent four years with the department, responded to the scene.
According to investigators, the three officers spoke with the man, identified as 47-year-old Brandon Lena, for nearly an hour, attempting to de-escalate the situation.
According to a report of the incident released by the department on Monday, OCPD said said Lena had reportedly made threats of dying by forcing police to shoot him, also known as "suicide by cop."
On two separate occasions, OCPD said less-lethal rounds were fired at the man, but later, Lena pointed his firearm at and was shot by the three officers.
Lena died at the scene.
No officers were injured, and so far there have been no injuries reported by residents in the area.
OCPD said the three officers have been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
