August is National Black Business Month and the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce is working to help minority-owned businesses in Tulsa.
Leaders with the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce said August is a great opportunity to teach people how to be independent through entrepreneurship. The Chamber is also highlighting how to run and stabilize a business.
Heather Nash with chamber says with the rich history of Greenwood. Recognizing this month is pivotal to help in their operations of supporting black-owned businesses. Nash says the second floor of the Greenwood Chamber Building is devoted to business owners who can't afford physical office space.
Nash says about 20 black businesses are using that space to work and learn more about how to grow their businesses.
"We’ve had a lot of beauty shops and barbers and even counseling services have used an incubator system to be able to do it. It’s been really successful, especially for those people who are like it’s just them only 1 person running the business,” said Nash.
Nash said the Greenwood Chamber can also help train people on how to run their business daily as an LLC and navigate tax laws. If you're interested in learning more you're encouraged to contact the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce.
