Several Injured In Crash On Cherokee Turnpike

The Cherokee Turnpike is now back open near Chouteau after a car with nine people inside crashed, leaving several people injured.

OHP Captain Colby Overstreet says nine people were in the car, and at least five were thrown from the car. He said there were seven children and two adults in the vehicle.

He says that five were flown to the hospital and four were taken by ground to hospitals. Overstreet says three are in critical condition and the others have significant injuries.

"Any severe collision is never a fun thing to have to respond to," he said. "The fact that there were children involved and a lot of children makes it difficult to see; something you never want to see."

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
