An 18-year-old high school senior from Alex, Oklahoma died in a weather-related car accident, Wednesday morning.
It happened just east of Alex, along state highway 19 at county road 2910.
According to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 18-year-old Cody Alexander was traveling westbound on SH 19 when he lost control on the slushy roads and went into a broadslide. At the same time, a tractor trailer heading eastbound crashed into Alexander's 1996 Ford F-150 on the front passenger side.
Alexander was pinned inside the pickup for approximately 45 minutes before being freed by Chickasha Firefighters using the Jaws of Life. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi, identified as 44-year-old Sanford Hicks, was not hurt and no charges are expected to be filed.
A candlelight vigil has been planned for Alexander on Friday night. The vigil will take place at the Alex High School courtyard around the bell at 6:30 p.m. Candles will be provided on a first come first serve basis.
Funeral services for Alexander will be Saturday Feb. 23, at 1 p.m. at the Alex High School gym.
