The Oklahoma State board of regents is set to vote on un-naming Murray Hall.
OSU’s president Burns Hargis called for the vote after he listened to dozens of students feelings on the name.
A petition was created and thousands signed it in favor of removing the name Murray from buildings on campus.
Murray Hall was named after the ninth governor of Oklahoma, William “Alfalfa Bill” Murray.
President Hargis released this statement on removing Murray from buildings and said, “The building's namesake Governor William H. "Alfalfa Bill" Murray, had a record of advocacy for racist policies including segregation
and the promotion of Jim Crow laws, which in effect stripped many Black Oklahomans of their constitutional right to vote."
The meeting will take place via zoom at 10 a.m.
