Oklahomans searching for a COVID-19 vaccine appointment can now book one with the Chickasaw Nation.

“We see this as an extension of our Chickasaw values and being a good neighbor, so it is very rewarding,” said John Krueger, the chief medical officer at the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health.

Krueger said people near and far have come to get their vaccine. Like David Bodine, who traveled an hour and a half from Norman to get his Pfizer shot.

“I am very grateful to Chickasaw Nation for opening it up to educators, and now, to the state of Oklahoma. That is a really, very kind gesture,” said Bodine.

Bodine's wife is a health care professional and got vaccinated right away, but he had to wait. Thankfully, the Chickasaw Nation made it easy and accessible for him.

“You just sit in your car and you drive through. You roll down your window and they can do the shot while you’re sitting in your car,” said Bodine.

The Chickasaw Nation's chief medical officer said it is simple; people can sign up online or call to schedule an appointment.

Since they started vaccinations, they have administered over 35,000 vaccines.

“Very simple for folks. We try and make it approachable and also a humane process, because we realize many people may be anxious or nervous about what the shot is like,” Krueger said.
