Oklahoma City Police will take the next steps to address the deadly hostage situation inside the Oklahoma County Detention Center last weekend.
OKC Police Chief Wade Gourley will be hosting a news conference at police headquarters at 10 a.m. Friday.
An OKC police officer shot and killed inmate Curtis Williams. Williams was accused of participating in taking a corrections officer hostage and holding something to the officer's neck.
The deadly police shooting and conditions inside the jail have ignited calls from activists who say the treatment is inhumane.
On Thursday the jail trust, which oversees the detention center, discussed the state health department's inspection report which says the jail has more than two dozen violations. These range from cold food, to lack of clean clothes, and inmates sleeping on the same bedding for weeks.
Local activists believe these conditions led to last weekend's hostage situation.
"The deplorable conditions at that facility drive men and women and children and any person on the face of this earth to a most desperate and preventable outcome," said Jess Eddy, a local activist.
The trust is also asking for more details, and a price tag for 68 Department of Corrections officers to help staff the jail.
"It needs to be more specific whatever DOC is willing to agree with us, we should get it in specific writing. I am very grateful to DOC, they stepped up in a huge way," Jail Trustee Francie Ekwerekwu said.
