The city of Harrah was on high alert after police were called to investigate the first homicide of the year.

Law enforcement swarmed a home located in the 2700 block of N. Peebly Rd.

According to police, the suspect identified as Brandon Ray, 36, argued with the victim before pulling out a gun and shooting him.

Wednesday residents of Harrah and investigators stumbled across an unnerving scene.

“Scary because nothing like this has ever happened in our neighborhood,” said neighbor Sylvia Trobaugh.

“For a homicide this is the first one of the year,” said Harrah Police Chief Gary Morgan.

Trobaugh was pulling into her neighborhood when she came upon the scene.

“I stopped one of the police. I said what happened? He said well one of your neighbors were shot and killed,” said Trobaugh.

She was told the gunman was on the run hiding somewhere in a wooded tree line.

“The wood is so thick it's hard to maneuver around,” said Morgan.

Trobaugh said despite having protection police told her to stay inside.

“He has a 357 Magnum, and we have a Pitbull,” Trobaugh said. “He said would you please go in the house and lock your door, don’t be coming outside.”

She said hours later Ray was arrested.

“They caught him right down there, across the creek, and I could hear the policeman screaming, ‘Get down I’m going to shoot! Get down I’m going to shoot you,’” said Trobaugh.

According to police, they found Ray walking down the road a mile away from the crime scene.

After tussling with officers, an ambulance took him away to get checked out.

The motive of the shooting remains under investigation.

“We don’t know the circumstances. We don’t know why he shot someone. We don’t know,” said Trobaugh.

According to police, an officer who wrestled with the suspect also went to the hospital to be checked for heat exhaustion.
