The family of a man convicted of murder believes he is not guilty. Cashe Graham was sentenced to life for killing a 2-year-old girl.
"Three and a half years later, we're standing at trial and we're hearing life without parole,” Graham's aunt, Lori Lehman, said. "It's devastating.”
Back in 2017, first responders were called to a home in Shawnee. They found 2-year-old Jamie Murdock, who was unresponsive. Murdock later died from swelling and bleeding in her brain.
"We miss her every day," Jamie's great-grandmother, Betty Pope, said. "Especially on holidays. Christmas, Thanksgiving, when all the family gets together."
Graham was dating Whitney Breslin, who is Jamie's mother. Last month, a Pottawatomie County judge sentenced him to life without parole after a jury found him guilty of murder.
Breslin pled guilty to enabling abuse. Graham’s family said he's an innocent man.
"This is not in my son’s character," Graham’s mother, Lisa Brown, said. "He is not a murderer. He did not permit it, and so, we believe him 1,000 percent."
"Just knowing somebody, and knowing they're not capable of that,” Lehman said. “I'm sure there's so many people who claim their innocence of their own family. That's what I've got to stand for."
Jamie's family agrees with the verdict and are still in shock that something like this could happen."
Heart-wrenching to see my son go on every holiday to decorate a grave that shouldn't even exist," Jamie’s grandmother, Debbie Newton, said.
Graham's family said he has a son of his own and is a good parent.
"He was a good guy," Brown said. "He was enjoying finally being able to build a family."
Graham's family also plans to appeal his verdict in the coming months.
