Putnam City Public Schools is holding a special meeting to consider extra money for vaccinations and staff retention.  If it's approved by the board of education, Putnam City Public Schools would offer vaccination and retention stipends for both teachers and substitute teachers on staff.

According to the special meeting agenda for Monday, the district would set aside just over $3 million for vaccination stipends and $1.6 million for retention.

For substitutes they'd set aside $140,000 for both vaccination and retention payments.

This incentive program is similar to the plan Oklahoma City Public Schools announced a little over a week ago.

Currently, OKCPS is offering a $1000 stipend to any employee who proves their vaccination status before November 15th.

The Putnam City special board meeting starts today at noon. Stick with News 9 for the latest updates.
