Waukomis Man Arrested, Accused Of Blackmailing Minors In Garfield County On Social Media

Garfield County authorities arrested a 20-year-old Waukomis man for allegedly soliciting sexual photographs and videos from women and minors and blackmailing them on social media. 

Wednesday, prosecutors charged Dillon Lee in the Garfield County District Court with blackmail and using a computer to instigate sexual conduct with a minor. 

The Waukomis Police Department initiated the investigation after receiving a report from a minor and worked with the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office to identify Lee as a suspect. 

“All behind a fake Instagram account,” Rink said. “The subjects name at the time was known as ‘Mike.’ 

According to a probable cause statement written by Waukomis Police Chief Logan Niles, Lee threatened to send compromising photographs of the victims to their family and friends. 

Sheriff Cory Rink said they are more than 10 victims involved, although they have not been identified. The known victims include at least one teenager. 

“Looking into the cellular device, it, it, it’s terrible to see the things that are on that phone,” Rink said. 

Earlier this year, Rink said a deputy in his office completed training with the OSBI targeting internet crimes against children. 

With additional training and know-how, the sheriff’s office is in a better position to lead and assist in investigations involving online crimes targeting children. 

“We look forward to working with all the other municipalities in our area and surrounding counties with our new technologies.”
