StormTracker Corey Butler

News 9 Storm Tracker Corey Butler has always been fascinated with cloud formations, even the ones that lead to tornadoes. He knew to respect the power of severe weather as far back as he can remember after an EF-5 tornado destroyed the high school in his hometown.

Corey loves being on the front lines and that’s one of the many reasons he served his country in the U.S. Navy as a naval aircrewman. Now retired from the military, Corey continues to serve his community by keeping them safe and informed as a Storm Tracker. He has been chasing with Tom Pastrano since 2019. Corey first started with News 9 as a Broadcast Engineer in 2013. He now works for an aerospace company as a systems engineer, but enjoys that the fact that he’s still part of the News 9 family as a trusted chaser.

The Kansas City native is a proud dad of two, and loves fishing, and gardening in his downtime. Corey is also a freemason (Myrtle lodge #145).
