A Shawnee woman finally gets what she paid $23,000 for while in college. The former Platt College student received her college transcript four years after she graduated.
When presented with a problem Brandi McCaul, Platt College graduate, will say speaking up is one solution.
"Finally getting somewhere,” said McCaul, a former Platt College student. “Making progress.”
McCaul told News 9 on Jan. 9, she graduated from Platt College, but never received one piece of graduation evidence.
“I know they gave [diplomas] out, [they] just didn’t give them to everybody,” McCaul said.
After Brandi graduated, she said no one from Platt College told her how to get her transcript or her diploma. After the college closed, there was no one there to answer her questions. After News 9’s initial story ran, someone contacted her.
“The day after the story ran,” McCaul said.
News 9 received more than 600 comments on Facebook for the first story.
“Way more than I could have imagined,” McCaul said.
One person who commented said she had problems with Platt College in 1998. Platt College’s (which is now Miller-Motte College) parent company Ancora Education told News 9 past students can get their transcripts at parchment.com.
Ancora would not answer questions about why this wasn’t communicated sooner to former students. The company released a statement saying “Ancora Education strives to provide students with the training, tools and resources to prepare them for their chosen professional career.
“Prior students may obtain transcripts regardless of whether they owed a balance to Platt College upon withdrawal or graduation.”
“It shouldn’t take anybody this much to get what they paid for,” McCaul said.
McCaul recommends researching any college before handing over thousands of dollars.
“Would’ve made all the difference in the world,” McCaul said.
McCaul got her transcript. Now she can take the necessary exam to certify herself as an official medical scrub technician.
“Finally, four years later, become what I started out to be,” McCaul said.
A long-awaited answer to a problem McCaul bought and paid for.
“Ready to put Platt College behind me for sure,” McCaul said.
