A local roofer is accused of scamming a family out of more than $12,000.

One customer told News 9 that the roofer took the money for a job and never even started it.

The man's name is Blake Sevetsky. He has worked for a number of different roofing companies, and News 9 learned through court documents and interviews that he's accused of causing trouble at almost every stop.

But Kasey Ball, a woman whose home she claims Blake took money for, called News 9 to see if we could help.

"He hasn't come out and done the job. He hasn't come out and talked to us. He hasn't done anything," Kasey said.

In March of last year, Kasey signed a contract with Astro Roofing, expecting her damaged roof would be repaired soon.

"There was always an issue. A trailer broke down or his roofing guys were busy, and this went on for months actually," Kasey said.

For almost a year, Kasey said Sevetsky made empty promises.

News 9 called Blake and he told us on Monday that he would return the money to her.

But after that phone call, he did not follow through on his promise.

Kasey still has a leaky roof and now even more trouble,

"Our front door won't open now because of the rain damage, and our roof is leaking from the fireplace onto the mantle that my aunt's late husband made for her and it's warping. The garage is in terrible shape, and we can't afford it, so what are we going to do then?"

Oklahomans are still suffering because of scams like this. And it's not just clients, business partners like Brad Bates with ICON Roofing also said they've been burned by Sevetsky .

"Personally, I have probably loaned him 15, that is just without him working here. When he worked here it was probably more. I mean, it was probably a good 30, 40 thousand," Bates said.

In a separate instance a lawsuit was filed in September by Rivers Construction LLC.

They claim Sevetsky was paid more than $39,000. The job was never finished. River's construction claims the defendant committed fraud.

Another business owner said that Sevetsky stole from his company too, using the owner's account to order materials and never paying him back.

Bates also believes Ball isn't the only client that has been scammed by Sevetsky.

"It is just the other people I worry about customers that can't dig out of this hole," Bates said.

Bates’ advice for consumers: don't pay upfront.

"You can reach out to the roofing supply stores and they are going to give you their most trusted roofers. Someone who has been paying their accounts for years, some they would trust to roof their own house... You want to find someone that is licensed with the CIB," Bates said.

And if someone doesn't follow through with their contract, reach out for help.

"It's not just money, this is our home, this is our children's home. This is my children's home. We can't replace it. We could lose literally everything. We can't afford to replace it. Just have a heart," Ball said.

News 9 is not aware of any criminal charges against Sevetsky.

News 9 also reached out to the Attorney General's office, and they recommend filing complaints with their office if there is a major issue.
