Oklahoma City Police said several dogs were seized from a home full of squatters as they investigated a stabbing there that left a man in critical condition.

"Just after 12 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of a stabbing on the 4800 block of North Terry Avenue. When they arrived, they found a man with a stab wound in the abdomen," said Lt. Isaac Goodman with the Oklahoma City Police Department. The victim was taken to OU Health's trauma center and was expected to survive.

Evidence at the scene led investigators to a nearby home on the corner of Northeast 47th Street and North Terry Avenue, where they believed the attack happened, said Goodman. That home was full of squatters, Goodman added.

Officers surrounded the home. Because it sounded like people were inside, police requested specialized units to try to communicate with the occupants, said Goodman.

Since nobody inside the home responded, police obtained a search warrant and went inside the home, where they found numerous pit bulls, Goodman said. OKC Animal Welfare officers seized the dogs. One officer was bit in the hand and suffered minor injuries.

Goodman said police detained two people near the home for questioning. But as of Saturday afternoon, it was unclear who stabbed the victim.

"We do believe that the suspect and the victim were somehow acquainted, knew each other," said Goodman. But we don't know the extent of that. The victim went into surgery very quickly because of his injuries, so we didn't get to do an in-depth interview before that happened."

Police have not released the identity of the victim. This is a developing story and updates will be posted when they become available.

Stay tuned for updates.
