Multiple crime scenes could be connected to one shooting victim and possible car burglaries. Police said on Wednesday they have more questions than answers in an investigation across southwest Oklahoma City.
The first call to police was made around 4 a.m. from an apartment complex near Southwest 89th and Western Avenue. A resident told officers he fired at a group of young males allegedly breaking into a truck. Officers and a crime scene unit quickly filled the parking lot of the Summit Point Apartments.
“Police arrived there,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk, Oklahoma City Police Department. “Had actually made contact with the person who did the shooting.”
The shooter told police the group ran from the scene after he fired the shots. Thirty minutes later police responded to a home several miles from the shooting scene. A 22-year-old reported he was shot in the back while walking home from a 7-Eleven store on South May Avenue.
“That person who was shot was taken to an area hospital and was treated for a non-life threatening injury,” said Quirk.
Investigators questioned the victim's story and his location when he was shot.
“The information they were receiving at the time didn’t quite add up to him being in that area,” said Quirk.
Police checked security video at the store the victim claimed to visit and another 7-Eleven location closer to the shooting scene. Police found the victim on camera at the location near the shooting.
Investigators are still piecing all the evidence together and have not made any arrests.
“But that’s not to say an arrest can’t be made,” said Quirk.
Witnesses to the car burglaries or shooting were asked to contact the Crime Stoppers tip line at (405) 235-7300.
