18-Year-Old Arrested In Connection To Del City Shooting

Authorities arrested an 18-year-old man on Tuesday in relation to a shooting in Del City, Oklahoma.

Damaja Ginn, 18, is facing a charge of shooting with intent to kill, according to an affidavit in Oklahoma County District Court. 

Del City Police pinned Ginn as the suspect through deleted text messages between him and his ex-girlfriend, Tanaya Owens–who also sat in the passenger seat of the victim’s car during the April 28 shooting. The victim, Joe McNeely, survived multiple shots to the neck and upper chest. 

McNeely recounted Owens yelling at Damaja at the scene to drive away as soon as she saw him, according to the affidavit. 

In an interview after the shooting, investigators received permission from Owens to search her phone. In recently deleted messages, Owens and Ginn discussed details of the shooting. Investigators discovered the two were formerly in a relationship and bore a child together. 

Owens recalled Damaja approached and knocked on the window noticing McNeely and Owens inside, and proceeded to shoot McNeely several times with a handgun.
