StormTracker Daryl Wheeler

News 9 Storm Tracker Daryl Wheeler was born and raised in Oklahoma. He was a member of the first Westmoore High School graduating class of 1989 but attended Newcastle Public Schools for most of his education. He was a professional actor for 12 years with the WhoDunit Dining Room Theater through the 1990’s into the early 2000’s. He graduated college from USAO with a B.A. in History and Education. He has been a public school educator since 1998 teaching various History and Speech classes. His dad used to say they are “a family of preachers or teachers” as that is the career paths chosen by Daryl and his three older siblings.

He was fascinated with storms at an early age watching Gary England on the TV with his dad for many years. Living in Moore and Newcastle as a young child and adult, he witnessed tornados on several occasions. His fondest memory of a storm as a kid was running with his family to the shelter and looking up as a tornado was passing overhead.

Daryl lives in rural Oklahoma with his wife and three sons. He joined Storm Tracker Tom Pastrano and the News 9 team in 2022 and loves helping Oklahomans stay weather aware.
