Basecamp Hybrid School is a full-year of social studies and science curriculum taught by a highly-qualified certified teacher.
They accept students from kindergarten to 8th grade and learn other subjects with parents however they choose.
The founder of Basecamp Hybrid School, Brenna Reaves, said this model is filling a need for some families, "At home, you can do your language and math and then here two days a week and we take care of a full year of science, social studies, art and passion projects and music."
Lauren Ramos's kids are students at basecamp. They started learning virtually during the pandemic now they have a situation perfect for them, "We got into it. We loved the structure, it worked well for our family, but we were looking for something more a community basically."
They also have a community and are expanding their interests.
"They are doing activities I have never seen them do before. I think like a lot of kids, they love technology and video games, and they are learning here how to play piano, how to grow a garden," Ramos said.
Basecamp's location in Mustang is full maxing out at 44 students. Due to the demand, Basecamp has opened a Pre-K to kindergarten program in the Wheeler district of Oklahoma City. There are eight spots left. Classes start Sept. 6.
"So, each class is two days a week and it maxes out at 16 students per class to keep our class sizes small for individualized education," Reaves said.
With growing education options throughout the metro. Some parents see basecamp as a way for their students to thrive, "Just a lot of hands-on skills they will be able to keep their entire life. Just a lot of really hands on skills my boys are able to explore here," Ramos said.

More about Basecamp: It is a drop-off, and parents do not have any teaching responsibilities! Basecamp does not "teach to a test,” but Basecamp will use the science and social studies Oklahoma State Standards as our spine to create a project-based curriculum.
They do this in a child-led, project-based, group interactive style. Three times during the school year, students will be encouraged to let their curiosity lead them in something they are passionate about and they will guide them in a passion project. These will be presented at their Basecamp Exhibition Night!
