The University of Central Oklahoma kicked off the new school year, welcoming its largest freshman class in years and a new university president.
UCO President Todd Lamb said he is thrilled to be at the university and has had the best welcome from staff students.
A new school year at UCO comes with new beginnings and new leadership.
“Well, I am very excited to be the 22nd president of UCO,” Lamb said.
The university welcomed Lamb in July, but he is no new face to our state. He served as lieutenant governor of Oklahoma from 2011 to 2019
“There has not been a better time to serve faculty here, staff here or to be serving this capacity,” Lamb said.
Lamb said he is ready for the challenges that come with the role. Last year, members of the UCO Women’s Track and Field team filed a lawsuit claiming they were being treated differently than their male counterparts. Lamb SAID as a father this is personal to him.
“We want to make sure that the young ladies on our campus are treated fairly and are encouraged and we can,” Lamb said. “Support them just like we do with our male athletes.”
Lamb said this year the university welcomes its largest freshman class.
Senior Abby Boyer said she looks forward to the opportunities Lamb could bring in for future students. “He is a great addition, and I had the opportunity to meet him, just his presence is positive, and he is passionate about UCO,” Boyer said.
Boyer said this year her focus will be to cherish every moment of her last year. “The community changes every year, and I think we are continuing to grow and bleed bronze and blue.”
Lamb said residential halls are at full capacity, and they look forward to the growing community.
