Editor's Note: Charges have been dismissed against Dayvion Hamilton by the district attorney.

A 15-year-old appears in court for the first time Wednesday morning, charged in the deadly shooting at Choctaw High School.

Dayvion Hamilton is accused of killing 16-year-old Cordea Carter during a football game at the school on August 25.

The video arraignment for the 15-year-old suspect was quick. Hamilton heard the first-degree murder charge against him followed by a plea of not guilty.

The shooting during a football game at Choctaw High School last month sent panic on the field and the stands and ultimately ended the life of Cordea Carter.

The family says Cordea was at the Choctaw/Del City football game to watch his cousins and brother play, when the shooting occurred. Cordea died upon arrival to the hospital.

Court documents state witnesses told police the victim was involved in a physical fight with someone when Hamilton came from behind the victim firing a gun. Police say witnesses identified Hamilton, who was arrested days later.

Cordea's mother had previously told us the pain of losing her son is extreme.

“As a mother, I hate my son was taken from me in such a manner, his death affected the entire city in ways that are unimaginable,” said Janae Carter, Cordea’s mother.

Despite being charged as an adult, Hamilton will remain housed at the Juvenile Detention Center until his trial and if convicted, until he turns 18.
