Big 12 Week 4: Kansas Returns To AP Poll And Texas Tames Baylor Bears

Kansas returns to the AP Poll as conference play for the Big 12 begins.

Take a look at your recap for Week 4 of Big 12 football.

Week 4 Winners:

Houston:

Topping the winners list for the first time this season are the Houston Cougars, the only Big 12 newcomer to win in Week 4.

The Cougars were able to come out on top over the Sam Houston State Bearkats in a 38-7 win. Houston began conference play the previous week in a 36-13 loss to the TCU Horned Frogs.

On Saturday, the Cougars travel to play the Texas Tech Red raiders in Lubbock.

Iowa State:

The Iowa State Cyclones snapped a two-game losing streak with a 34-27 win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys.Cyclones quarterback Rocco Becht threw for 348 passing yards and three touchdowns along the way to the team's victory.

Looking forward, the Cyclones travel to play the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman

Kansas:

The Kansas Jayhawks are ranked no. 24 in the AP Poll. This is the third time the team has been ranked since 2009.

The ranking comes after the Jayhawk's 38-17 win over the BYU Cougars. For Week 5, the Jayhawks travel to Austin to face the No. 3 Texas Longhorns.

Kansas State:

The Kansas State Wildcats were absent from the Week 3 Winners list after a last-second 30-27 loss to Missouri, but for Week 4, they return after a 44-31 win over the UCF Knights.

Looking ahead, the Wildcats are on a Bye Week for Week 5, but for Week 6 will travel to Stillwater to face the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Oct. 6.

Oklahoma:

The Oklahoma Sooners showed once again that sometimes the best offense is a good defense on the way to the team's 20-6 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Bearcats quarterback was held to 22 completions out of 41 attempted passes and 235 yards, as well as throwing two interceptions against the Sooners.

On Saturday, the Sooners return to Norman to welcome Iowa State.

TCU:

After beginning conference play in Week 3, the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs welcomed the SMU Mustangs to Fort Worth.

TCU quarterback Chandler Morris threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns on the way to the Horned Frogs' 34-17 win over the Mustangs.

This weekend, TCU welcomes the West Virginia Mountaineers to Fort Worth.

Texas:

The Texas Longhorns were able to shut down the Baylor Bears on Saturday, winning 38-6 and holding the bears to two field goals.

For Week 5, the Longhorns welcome the Kansas Jayhawks to Austin, Texas. Both teams, along with the Oklahoma Sooners, are the only remaining undefeated teams in the conference. If Texas and Oklahoma both win in Week 5, both teams will head into their game on Oct. 7 to battle to be the last undefeated team in the Big 12 Conference.

West Virginia:

Intent on keeping their win streak alive, the Mountaineers were able to hold on in a 20-13 win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Coming up, the Mountaineers travel to Fort Worth to face TCU.

Week 4 Losers:

Baylor:

The Baylor Bears faced a so-far dominant Texas Longhorns team, and were defeated handily. The bears were held to only two field goals the first half, and were shut out the rest of the game.

Ahead, the Bears travel to Orlando to face the UCF Knights.

BYU:

In BYU's first conference game as part of the Big 12, the Cougars fell short to the no. 24 Kansas Jayhawks 38-17, despite the efforts of a Cougars fan near the US-Canadian Border.

On Saturday, BYU returns to Provo to welcome the Cincinnati Bearcats.

UCF:

The Knights fell 44-31 to the Kansas State Wildcats, who themselves coming off a loss to Missouri in Week 3.

The Knights welcome the Baylor Bears to Orlando on Saturday.

Cincinnati:

The Cincinnati Bearcats were held to two field goals in their game against Oklahoma.

Cincinnati will travel to Utah to face the BYU Cougars in Provo on Saturday.

Oklahoma State:

The Oklahoma State Cowboys, after starting the season 2-0, have now lost two straight against their opponents.

After a blowout 33-7 loss against South Alabama in Week 3, the Cowboys looked to recover against Iowa State, but fell short 34-27.

This week, the Cowboys are on a Bye Week, but welcome the Kansas State Wildcats to Stillwater on Oct. 6 for Week 6.

Texas Tech:

Despite a late-game, fourth quarter rally from the Red Raiders, it just wasn't enough to overcome the deficit against the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Looking ahead, the Red Raiders welcome the Houston Cougars to Lubbock.
