The annual Plaza District Festival was held Saturday. The festival celebrates art, food and culture here in the city every year with fun for the whole family. The free event is a big stage for local artists and small business owners.

Oklahoma native Brittany Jacobs has been an artist for over 10 years.

"On a whim, took a metal smithing class and fell in love with it and I’ve been doing it ever since," she explained.

She handcrafts jewelry and runs a small business called Moth Wing Metal Works.

"My favorite thing about metal smithing and jewelry specifically is that it takes a lot of strength, you know brute force, to make something beautiful," she said. "It feels crazy that people want to represent me and what I make on their body every day, there's just nothing better."

Saturday, she shared her art with the Plaza Fest, alongside dozens of other vendors.

"This is an annual event we have every year," Anna Miller, Plaza Fest Co-Chair, said. "It's really just a celebration of the district. Everything we do here in the plaza district we want to be free and accessible to everyone so when we do fundraisers like this all the money goes towards that."

She says the ultimate goal is inclusivity.

"Art, food, music… Just a sense of inclusivity where everyone knows they can come here and be themselves and have fun,” Miller said. "There's truly something for everyone."

With vendors and artists from across the city and state, the Plaza District Festival celebrates the importance of keeping it local.

"Absolutely, and especially in Oklahoma City,” Jacobs said. “I always tell people you know we really value local art, local business, local food, and things like that here."
