A man who was involved in a standoff on Monday in Oklahoma City and died by suicide has been identified by investigators, police say.

Oklahoma City Police said 61-year-old Ivan Troncoso was the man who barricaded himself inside a motel near South Meridian Avenue and Interstate 40..

The department said they responded shortly before 4 a.m. to the motel.

Before Troncoso took his life, officers said were able to talk to him, and said Troncoso told them he was not going back to jail.

Oklahoma City police said this all started as a pursuit on Saturday. According to OCPD, Troncoso had a felony warrant out of Custer County.

“A suspect fled the scene. Officers were able to identify him, but he fled the traffic stop,” Msgt. Gary Knight said.

Early Monday morning, officers spotted the suspect's car again at Howard Johnson Hotel on Meridian. This time they were able to speak with him.

“We actually spoke to the suspect through a closed door. He indicated he was armed and was not coming out,” Msgt. Knight said.

After speaking to Troncoso, OCPD said they heard gunshots and called in the tactical unit and negotiators.

“At that point it becomes a waiting game,” Msgt. Knight said.

Police said the standoff lasted for several hours and they evacuated the hotel.

“There was more gunfire and a single shot, and they did not hear the suspect talking or making any noise after that,” Msgt. Knight said.

Someone that lives nearby, and wanted to stay anonymous, said all of the commotion woke her up.

“I think this is the beginning of a challenging week,” the neighbor said. “The smell was something you'll never forget. It's gunpowder, and blood and feces."

Officers went into the room after the gunfire stopped, and said Troncoso wasn't shooting at police, but within his hotel room.

“I don't know what they had hooked to it, but when he left it was a mess. It was a mess,” the neighbor said.

“It appeared he had shot and killed the dog and then shot and killed himself,” Msgt. Knight said.

“It's not a good area. It doesn't make for very good neighbors,” the neighbor said.
