Today, friends and family gathered to honor the memory of a Central Junior High student who was killed last week.
14-year-old Icelee Prestel was hit by the Amtrak late Monday night in a tragic accident
Still reeling from the death of his daughter, Kenneth Myers and his family are figuring out how to move forward and keep her memory alive.
"She was just a joy to be around," Myers said. "They're still learning right from wrong, even at their age.”
Family and friends gathered Sunday to remember the Moore teenager with a balloon release.
"Everybody loved her,” Myers said. “Her teachers loved her, her friends loved her."
Icelee's father shared more about how he wants his daughter to be remembered.
"She loved animals,” he shared. “We have four dogs and if you couldn't find them you could go upstairs and find them in Icelee's room."
He also shared some of his favorite memories.
"But I’ll never forget, I had been dating her mom a couple of months and she came up to me and said 'are you going to be my dad?'" Myers said, tearfully. "The day that I proposed I asked her, 'Do you remember when you asked me if I was going to be your dad?' and she goes, 'Yes.' I said 'yes I am.'"
While he never got to officially adopt Icelee, Myers remains a proud father.
"To me she'll be Icelee Elaine Prestel Myers," he said.
She was a young girl who was loved by many.
"She impacted some people because I mean there's a lot of kids here today," Myers said, looking out at the crowd.
One of Icelee's friends, Jordynn Price, painting a picture of who she was.
"She was nice, kind, outgoing, smart,” Price said. “She was so sweet and honestly just the best person, the best friend, the best best friend, the best sister, that anyone could have."
Price was one of dozens, alongside teachers, friends, family, and supporters to release balloons in Icelee's honor.
Her family was blown away by the support.
"I didn't really understand the Oklahoma standard until now," Myers said.
He and his family are now reflecting on how they begin to heal.
"I know she's up in heaven with God, and God’s got His arms wrapped around her," Myers said.
