Edmond Police said they arrested a school bus driver for having a large amount of child pornography.
Timothy Norman Olson, 73, was a bus driver for Deer Creek Schools. His route included Deer Creek Intermediate School, Deer Creek 4th and 5th Grade Center, Deer Creek High School and Deer Creek Elementary, the district said.
Edmond Police said on Tuesday, that the agency's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force worked with Oklahoma City Police to serve a search warrant at Olson's home in Northwest Oklahoma City.
The investigation began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a CyberTip on Jan. 31 from Microsoft representatives, who reported that a user uploaded images flagged as possible child pornography, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Once at Olson's home, digital forensic examiners found "a substantial volume of child pornography images" on a computer, said police. The computer had more than 70 browser windows open, with each one showing child pornography, the affidavit stated.
Officers arrested Olson on a complaint of aggravated possession of child pornography. He was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center, police added.
"This is kind of the last thing that a parent expects, so it's definitely shocking," said a concerned parent whose child is a student in the district.
Edmond Police said the investigation remains ongoing and urged anyone with information to call the department at 405-439-4338.
"He clearly had plenty of access to children. And so that's very concerning. That puts this on a different level," said Emily Ward, public information officer with the Edmond Police Department.
Deer Creek Schools said the district placed Olson on administrative leave pending the investigation's outcome.
"These allegations are very concerning and we are committed to assisting the Edmond Police during their investigation," Deer Creek Schools said in a statement. "The safety of our students is our highest priority and accusations such as this we take very seriously."
The district said all of its employees are required to complete a thorough background check through the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation before they are hired. No one had reported any complaints or concerns about Olson during his "many years" with the district, Deer Creek Schools said in its statement.
"I think the problem is there is no way to really background check for that if they have never been caught or been accused of it," the concerned parent said. "So I think that's where they need to be some kind of solution."
