Oklahoma City police are investigating a bomb threat made on Wednesday to Westmoore High School’s office. Police said nothing was found but the school evacuated students out of an abundance of caution.
Students thought they were following a routine fire drill Wednesday morning.
“We thought it was going to be a quick one but then they took us to the evacuation zone, and they didn’t tell us anything,” said Joel Miranda-Cruz, student. “Until like we had to find out ourselves.”
The Sophomore student said he learned from an email sent from Moore Public Schools district officials the fire drill was a bomb threat made to the school.
“The school made the decision to evacuate the students,” said Msgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department. “Called for police.”
Students who drove to school were able to leave, while Freshmen students were bused to a junior high and others had to call a parent to pick them up. While students were out of the buildings, police did a sweep of the school.
“It’s a large school, large area we wanted to make sure everything was safe,” said Knight. “They did a complete sweep and found nothing suspicious.”
The all clear was made several hours after the school was evacuated. District officials told News 9 Freshman students were bussed back to school and students that were not picked up returned to class.
Police are continuing to investigate to find the source of the threatening call.
“At this time, we have not identified a suspect,” said Knight. “Anyone with information we want to hear from them through Crime Stoppers.”
Knight said an arrest was made at the school involving a student but was not connected to the bomb threat in any way.
