Kate Melton, a local actress who was born in Oklahoma City, is returning to the metro after 20 years in Hollywood to teach acting classes and advocate for the film industry in OKC.

She said her classes offer a variety of workshops with special industry guests.

One of the classes she teaches is scene studies.

"The art of dissecting a script, picking it apart, finding similarities between yourself and the character, and then learning how to bring that character to life. It's essential to any actor's toolbox," Melton said.

She said she had spent most of her life traveling back and forth between Oklahoma City and Los Angeles, pursuing acting and wants to share her knowledge.

"I'm just so happy to be back here and be able to kind of bring some of the skills that I've learned in my many years, and to teach them to others and help grow this huge film community here that we're building," Melton said.

She said the film industry in Oklahoma has grown immensely and she has been working closely with congressional leaders to raise the film incentive from $30 million to $80 million.

"That's gonna bring a lot of jobs to Oklahoma, it's gonna bring opportunities for creative professionals to actually do their job from here from the state that we all love so much," Melton said.

Melton said her biggest advice to aspiring actors is to make sure you love it and your heart is in it fully.

"Find a supportive community of like-minded people that like to do the same thing and, maybe take some classes, see if it's for you," Melton said.
