The largest arthritis gathering in the world is happening across the US this weekend. The Arthritis Foundation is hosting the Walk to Cure Arthritis which helps to raise money for research and resources in hopes of finding a cure.

Arthritis Foundation of Oklahoma Executive Director Shelly Jordan and Stephanie Mansour, an honoree, joined News 9 on the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to discuss the Oklahoma City walk.

“We're just bringing the arthritis community together to build connections and to celebrate their strength and resilience,” Jordan said. “We have some festivities planned before the walk kicks off and then we have a one mile walk around the river.”

Often, arthritis can make everyday activities more difficult, even something as simple as walking.

“I think just having that good support system built around you, encouraging you and helping is really what pushes you to accomplish things like this,” Mansour said. “Like even just a one mile walk is difficult, but when you have a great support system, you feel like you can accomplish it.”

The walk is June 1 at 10 a.m. at Regatta Park in Oklahoma City.
