An event celebrating Puerto Rican culture is going to be held this weekend in downtown Oklahoma City.

Carlos Rivera and Lee Hernan met with News 9 and the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to tell us what to expect.

“I just came up with an idea like, ‘hey, there's not been a Puerto Rican celebration that I know of in the 23 years that I've been out here.’ And they were like, ‘hey, let's put it together, find some music. We got drinks, you got the food, let's do it,’” Rivera said. “So that's the plan. [We] just wanna celebrate our culture, you know, the history and just all the positive things that it's about.”

Rivera and Hernan say the event is open to everyone.

“Just having fun celebrating life, music, all the positive accomplishments that Puerto Ricans have contributed to society. That's what the Puerto Rican Day parade is about in New York, and that's kind of what the vibe is that we wanna bring here,” Rivera said.

The event will have plenty of food and drinks, Rivera says, so come celebrate.

The Puerto Rican Day Celebration will be held on June 8 from 5-8 p.m., for more information, click here.
