“We do not believe this is a random kidnapping, we believe those things are very rare in this country,” said Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson, III. “I do believe that she was a target.”
On Friday, deputies say two armed men forced 43-year-old Isabel Brown into their car near Northwest 178th Street and MacArthur Boulevard. Johnson said once the Kasey alert went out, the victim was dropped off around Interstate 40 and May Avenue.
“This notifies our citizenry when things happen in real-time,” Johnson said. “Our best eyes and ears are you all out there in the community who are seeing things go on.”
According to the arrest warrant, FBI agents assisted and were able to pull four pictures from the victim’s Tesla car, one showing a black man “armed with a long rifle and had no mask.” Through facial recognition, Johnson says the suspect was identified as 23-year-old Kadarryus Caples from Fort Worth, Texas. The arrest warrant shows the victim picked Caples out of a photo lineup using his driver’s license picture.
“We value those relationships, so we certainly call on them when we think they have expertise, technology, or resources that can help us in our effort,” Johnson said of the FBI’s assistance.
Until she was let go, the court paper also reveals the suspect beat and choked the victim until she was unconscious and told her he “was going to kill her.”
“She's still walking and talking. It will never take away the trauma that she's been through,” Johnson said.
Investigators say the victim told them $250,000 was stolen from her car and another $10,000 from her Cash App account. Once the suspect is caught, investigators hope to find the other suspects. It’s unclear just how many were involved.
“Hopefully, what happens is you take this person in custody, and through the interrogation process, we're able to get a positive ID for the other individuals involved,” he said.
The suspect is wanted on complaints of kidnapping, robbery, and aggravated assault and battery. While the suspects are still out there, Sheriff Johnson says this was not a random kidnapping and there is no threat to the community.
