A local organization says learning doesn't have to stop during the summer or after school with their variety of camps and classes.

Mad Science has offered STEM-based summer camp programs throughout the state of Oklahoma for more than 16 years.

News 9's Addie Crawford brought the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch to a camp where kids are painting pots to plant vegetables in.

Derek Brock, the chief mad scientist, said they want to make learning fun and engaging for kids.

"We believe that learning should be hands-on and inquiry-based," said Brock. "We don't tell kids what's gonna happen; we ask them, 'If you do this, what do you think is gonna happen?'"

He said they keep class sizes small to help kids stay engaged.

"We wanna make sure that each one of the Children that comes to one of our summer camps or even our after-school programs programs like that. When it's a workshop setting like this, we wanna make sure that they're very engaged," Brock said.

He said they hire instructors who are usually studying subjects such as science, arts, or agriculture.

"Many of them are still in college learning and, and this, this works well for their education as well," Brock said.

While summer will soon be drawing to an end, Brock said there are plenty of opportunities for camps and classes left.
