The City of Tulsa recently launched a new program empowering Tulsans to make positive changes in their neighborhoods.
The city says the goal of the Neighborhood Academy is to equip residents with the tools and knowledge to make effective changes and to build neighborhood networks.
The Community Development Division in the Department of City Experience, formerly known as "Working in Neighborhoods," helped to launch the program.
Rodrigo Rojas is the Director of Community Development and said it's designed to allow residents to create a sense of belonging in the places where they live and create vibrant communities for them to thrive in.
Rojas said the program is curriculum-based and will eventually consist of four sections of materials. Right now, residents who enroll will learn how to get to know their neighbors, run meetings, and come together as a community.
“We live in a time where we’re very connected socially and digitally through the internet, but we’re also far apart when it comes to the physical environments of our city, of our neighborhood, and we just hope this is one step to really encourage more interaction with your neighbors,” Rojas said.
The first cohort will launch on Oct. 26, during a half-day training.
