Garvin County Sheriff-Elect Will Work To Solve 3 Deaths

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The election of a new sheriff in Garvin County is bringing new hope to people worried about three deaths.

On Tuesday voters elected former Oklahoma City police officer Larry Rhodes as sheriff.

"I want to bring to Garvin County a level of law enforcement that the larger cities in the state have," said Garvin County Sheriff-elect Larry Rhodes.

Members of the group called the Eleventh Commandment hope Rhodes will reopen investigations into the deaths of Tom Horton, Chandra Turner and Sheila Deviney. Horton and Turner's deaths have been ruled to be suicides, while Deviney's is a homicide.

"All we ever asked for--all the families of the Turners, the Devineys, and Hortons ever asked for- was a clear, fair investigation of the cases," said Shannon Kile with the Eleventh Commandment.

In September, members of the Eleventh Commandment circulated posters in Maysville. The posters contained Sheila Deviney's picture and offered a $50,000 reward to find her killer.

The sheriff-elect hasn't seen any of the files yet.

"One thing I do promise is that I will take a look at these three cases," said Rhodes. "And again based on the facts and what's in the case file and any new leads or any new information, I will take an objective look at these cases."

Because the incumbent sheriff was appointed rather than elected, Larry Rhodes will be sworn into office Friday afternoon.
