PONTOTOC COUNTY, Oklahoma -- A double fatality accident closed down a Pontotoc County highway for about three and a half hours as emergency workers cleared the scene, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Cody Wayne Adams, 17, of McAlester and a passenger Robert Douglas Robbins, 16, of Savannah were killed as a result of a head on collision with a semi trailer truck. Both Adams and Robbins were pronounced dead at the scene due to massive injuries.
Adams' 2002 Ford Mustang was eastbound on SH 1 when it traveled left of center for an unknown reason. The car continued down the wrong side of the highway directly in the path of a 1996 Freightliner driven by Michael Wayne Mosley, 58, of Roff.
Ross took evasive action to the left. According to the report, Adams then swerved back into the correct lane where the vehicles collided.
Adams and his passenger were pinned for approximately two hours before being extricated by the Ada Fire Department.
State Highway 1 about a mile west of Allen was closed at about 8:49 a.m. and was re-opened at 12:18 p.m., according to the OHP report.
Troopers are still investigating Adams' condition at the time of the accident, the report states. Ross was in apparently normal condition. The cause of the accident is listed as "left of center in meeting."
