OKLAHOMA CITY – A group of Muslim youth will meet with an Oklahoma City charity organization on Saturday, to volunteer their time in accordance to their faith in the month of Ramadan.
These Muslim youth from Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Edmond, and Norman will help pack back packs with food at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma located at 3355 S. Purdue St., from 1 to 4 p.m.
"This is a really hard test on our patience," says 12 year old Muhammad Dheeb of Broken Arrow. "We are packing food, while at the same time resisting the temptation to indulge in food."
Organizers of this event say this year Ramadan has been especially hard, because it has landed in the summer season. The Muslim calendar follows a lunar cycle, thus Ramadan falls at a different time each year.
"The longer, hotter summer days are not only trying on us, but in the spirit of Ramadan it reminds us of how trying starvation is on the less fortunate. This experience will remind us of why we should help those in need." says Summer Ali, Peace Academy 8th grade student .
Ramadan is the ninth month on the Islamic Calendar in which Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other sensual desires for the daylight hours for the entire month.
