Rusty Surette

Rusty Surette is the Executive Producer of News 9's morning newscast.

A native of Southeast Texas, Rusty began his news career at the age of 14 as a freelance breaking news photographer.  He's also worked as an investigative reporter, news anchor, producer, weather forecaster and assignments manager in Beaumont, TX, Lake Charles, LA, Raleigh, NC and Las Vegas, Nevada.

In July 2007, Rusty moved to Oklahoma City to join the News 9 family.

Rusty has received more than a dozen awards and honors from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Oklahoma Associated Press, Louisiana Associated Press, Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists, Southeast Texas Press Club and Nevada Electronic Media Association. 

In 2011, Rusty took a temporary break from television news to join the American Red Cross. In his role as Regional Director of Communications, Rusty spent countless hours helping disaster victims across Oklahoma, Texas and Mississippi. Today, Rusty continues to serve as a Red Cross volunteer and board member.  In the same year he obtained an Associate's Degree in Personal Fitness Training and Exercise Science at Heritage College.

One year later, Rusty returned to Griffin Communications where he's now the Executive Producer of News 9 This Morning.
