OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahomans have complained it can take hours to get a driver's license these days. So just what is causing the long waits?
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is responsible for all things vehicle and driver's license-related in Oklahoma. The southwest station in Oklahoma City along Interstate 240 is the busiest. There are long lines in the building five days a week.
State budget cuts are partly to blame for the long waits. Slashed staff plus Oklahoma's growing driving population equals backup at the DPS stations. And, some license approvals are just more complicated than others.
