The cold front moving into Oklahoma is also bringing a chance of snow with it. If snow happens, it will be the latest snowfall for the area in history.

The front has already made a big difference in northeastern Oklahoma, as temperatures have dropped into the 40s. That compares to a high of 84 in Tulsa on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

News On 6 meteorologist Alan Crone says this is an unprecedented weather event. He says temperatures will continue to drop into the middle 30s by Thursday evening.  Rain is also in the forecast.

Track the rain with WARN Weather Radar.

Crone says there is a slight chance the rain will change to a snow mix across northeastern Oklahoma Thursday evening.

A freeze watch is in effect for northeast Oklahoma from Thursday evening into Friday morning. Counties included in the watch are:

  • Adair
  • Cherokee
  • Creek
  • Craig
  • Delaware
  • Mayes
  • Nowata
  • Okfuskee
  • Okmulgee
  • Osage
  • Ottawa
  • Pawnee
  • Rogers
  • Wagoner
  • Washington

Crone says northwestern Oklahoma west of I-35 should see temperatures fall below freezing by Friday morning.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation said Thursday morning that crews were salting bridges in NW Oklahoma to address the light snow accumulation.
