Someone broke into OU football coach Bob Stoop's house, that according to Norman police who say several members of the Stoops family were home at the time.

No one was injured, but police say a vehicle and other personal items were stolen.

A number of electricians and security company trucks were parked outside Stoop's home for several hours Thursday. Police say someone broke into the house overnight Tuesday, but no one realized it until 8 a.m the next morning.

"My understanding is they noticed things were missing and realized somebody had been in the house then contacted us," said Sgt. Jennifer Newell with the Norman Police Department.

Newell says the burglars were inside the house while family members were sleeping.

"One of the things we did learn was people were home at the time of burglary. That moves it from a first-degree burglary to a second-degree burglary," said Newell.

Newell won't comment on who was home at the time.

The OU athletic department has released this statement:

"Coach Stoops and Carol appreciate the concern expressed for their family and appreciate the efforts of local authorities who are handling this matter."

Newell won't say how the burglars got into the house, but says this case can serve as a good reminder to us all.

"It's a good idea before you go to bed check your windows and doors and make sure they are locked. If you have an alarm system, it's a good idea to activate it."

At this point, Newell says they don't have any suspects and no one has been arrested.
