Duncan Murder Weapon Found In Storage Unit

There are new details in the investigation surrounding the murder of a Duncan family. Police now believe they have found the weapon and other crucial evidence in this case.

In the waters of Duncan Lake is where investigators literally dove into the case. It is where Alan Hruby told detectives he got rid of the gun he used to kill his family, as well as surveillance equipment from his parents' home.

“I believe that he went with the officers out there,” Duncan Police Department Captain Jay Evans said.

A dive team found nothing in the shallow water, because it wasn't there. It was inside a storage facility not far from the Hruby's home. Police made the discovery as they were watching surveillance video from businesses along Highway 81 north of Duncan to get a better idea of the timeline of Alan Hruby's whereabouts.

“In going over some video surveillance footage, we observed a vehicle that was similar to the suspect's,” Evans said.

Sure enough, it was Hruby's jeep, and video showed it pull into Duncan Warehouse Leasing where the Hruby's rented a storage unit. Police got a search warrant.

“We went in and found the items that we had been looking for,” said Evans. “We found a gun, and we also found a DVR that went to the security system.”

The gun is the same one John Hruby reported stolen the same day he was murdered. The warrant states, "At approximately 7:59 pm on October 9....Alan Hruby parked his vehicle within walking distance away from the Hruby residence moments before Alan Hruby fatally shot his family members...and walked to the residence after he parked his car in this spot." It goes on to say that "Alan Hruby possibly discarded crucial evidence in this storage building before leaving to travel to Dallas, Texas immediately after the shooting" of his family.

Police said they also found several fake ID cards inside the storage building.

Early in the morning before his family was murdered, Alan Hruby was pulled over and gave police a fake name. That name was Dakota Moore. Police said Alan Hruby had used that name before, and that it belongs to someone in town. 

News 9 located that person. He is about the same age as Alan Hruby and lives just around the corner from the Hruby's home.
