Every day, thousands of Oklahomans receive annoying phone calls from telemarketers. Now, there's a new push by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to stop those annoying robocalls for good.
The head of the FCC is calling on phone companies to step in and dial-up more protections for customers. Chairman Tom Wheeler just finished sending letters to CEO’s of major phone companies about rob calls. He says he wants ideas from the companies on a "concrete solution" to address the issue.
Currently the FCC does not require robocall blocking, but encourages companies to offer the technology free to customers.
In the nation’s capital several U.S. lawmakers have filed legislation, forcing companies to give customers the ability to block robocalls.
Until something is done there are several smartphone apps such as Privacy Star, Truecaller, and Who App that can identify telemarketers before you pick up the phone.
