The gates at the Tulsa State Fair at the fairgrounds in midtown Tulsa open at 5 p.m.

But for some, their part has already started.

When a lot of people think about the fair, they think about the rides and the food, but for others, it's about livestock show.

Thursday, the goat show was taking place, and judging was taking place for milking goats.

"We've been going to this show for a while now... four years ago at this show I won best in show with my goat," said 9-year-old Brianna Burton of Stilwell.

Some livestock events began Thursday morning at 8 a.m. and are going on all day long.

The fair, the rides and the vendor booths all open at 5 p.m. Thursday, and those worried about parking can get to the fair using a shuttle.

The fair offers a shuttle system, and there are different locations where you can meet the shuttle: Nathan Hale High School, OSU Tulsa, the TPS Charles C. Mason Education Service Center and the Tulsa Promenade Mall. Drivers can drop their cars off there, jump on the shuttle, and they'll bring drive them to the fair. Then, they'll take them back to their cars when they're ready to leave the fair.

It'll last for 11 days with thousands expected to come to town to attend.  The state Department of Labor inspected all the rides on Wednesday.

The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office provides security at the fairgrounds and is ready for the crowds to arrive.

The buildings with vendor booths and other activities at the Tulsa State Fair are open until 10 p.m. during the week.

The schedule changes up a bit on the weekend.  The midway is open from 11 a.m to midnight on Friday and Saturday and the rest of the buildings at the fair open at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Tulsa State Fair posted to Facebook Wednesday, clearing up a rumor about age limits. It says there are no age restrictions, all ages are welcome.
