Broken Arrow city leaders are trying to identify why a tornado siren malfunctioned early Friday morning.
The city says the siren near New Orleans Street and Olive Avenue malfunctioned twice between 3 a.m and 3:15 a.m.
"I didn't get much sleep last night," said Claudia Stanley, who lives nearby.
Jamie Ott, Emergency Management Director for Broken Arrow, sent an electrician out shortly after it happened.
"We're going to get it repaired as soon as we can, whatever it is we can find," said Ott.
According to Ott, the tornado siren has since been powered down as they work to determine the cause of the malfunction, but that could take some time.
With the threat of storms, city leaders are encouraging people who live near the siren to have other warning devices.
"Citizens need to have more than one way to receive emergency information," said Ott.
Ott says these types of malfunctions are rare and the sirens are tested in a silent mode weekly during this time of year.
They will do live tests starting later this month as we approach tornado season.
