One person is dead after a shootout with police officers happened Tuesday in an Ada neighborhood.

About 10 a.m., Ada police officers tried to serve felony warrants at a residence in the 800 block of W 12th Street near Hickory Street.

When officers arrived, a suspect was outside and reportedly opened fire on the officers, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation reported.

One Ada police officer was hit and officers returned fire.

The officers shot the man, identified as 58-year-old Thomas Cole Thompson, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, OSBI said.

The wounded officer, identified as six-year department veteran officer Matthew Mericle, was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Thompson's wife, 49-year-old Kristina Thompson, was taken to the hospital after the shooting for observation. She was taken into custody on a felony warrant after she was released from the hospital. She is in the Pontotoc County jail.

A third person at the home was arrested on other warrants, OSBI said.
