Human remains were found Friday on a property in Kingfisher, police confirmed.
Officers and OSBI agents believe the victim is 56-year-old Brenda Baber.
According to police, Baber was last heard from on Tuesday, April 2 in Kingfisher.
Police have arrested Baber's boyfriend 62-year-old Steven Stricker on a murder complaint.
Police said Stricker had been arrested several times for domestic violence.
“Couple times I heard them screaming back and forth on the back porch, but not every day,” said neighbor Donovan Mitchel.
Mitchel said he never thought his neighbor Stricker was capable of murder.
Mitchel said he knew Stricker well.
“I spoke with him probably every day,” Mitchel only caught glimpses of believed victim Barber. “I might let the dogs out every morning and see her over there, drinking coffee and wave hi, morning and wave,” said Mitchel.
Mitchel says he and his wife suspected something was wrong when police came knocking.
“They were just asking if we had seen anything strange, out of the ordinary,” said Mitchel.
He told them Stricker had been burning something all week in his backyard and had been spending a lot of time in the garden, where police were later seen scouring.
Police grew more suspicious after getting a warrant to search the home.
“Her medications, she often used her walker, it was still here, her pet, her dog that she never would have left without was still here,” said Kingfisher Police Chief Dennis Baker.
Police said the house sits in a flood zone and it was slated to be torn down in the coming weeks. Formal charges are expected to be filed against Stricker on Monday, April 8.
