Teen Arrested In 2013 'Thrill Kill' Of Christopher Lane Released From Prison

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections says James Edward Jr. was released from prison Thursday.

Edwards was charged with accessory to murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison with 10 suspended for the murder of 22-year-old Christopher Lane, an ECU baseball player and Australian native.

Lane was jogging in Duncan when three teens, including Edwards, randomly shot and killed him because they were “bored.”

Edwards, who was 15 at the time of the murder, originally faced a first-degree murder charge. But that was amended after he agreed to testify against the other suspects, Michael Jones, Odesse John David Barnes and Chancey Luna.

According to the Duncan Banner,  it was recommended Edwards serve 40 years in prison, with 20 in and 20 out of jail, but the defense asked for much less, resulting in the 25 year sentence, of which 10 years was suspended.

Edwards was released from prison wearing an ankle monitoring bracelet. He will spend the next several months wearing it until he reaches eligibility for probation.
