A pedestrian killed in an accident Wednesday was a hospital patient.
It was an accident that turned the heads of Northwest Expressway commuters Wednesday morning.
The victim was lying in the street when he was hit by a car.
“The driver had no idea that he actually ran over the person or that the person was in the roadway until after the incident. As soon as he left the scene he called 9-1-1 and then came back immediately,” Officer Megan Morgan said.
Oklahoma City Police say the driver did nothing wrong.
He won't be arrested, and charges won't be pressed.
The victim, 66-year-old Peter Mabry, died right away.
No one knows why he was laying in the middle of the street, but they have some clues.
Integris confirms Mabry was one of their patients and released the following statement:
"We can confirm the person involved in yesterday's auto-ped accident was one of our patients. Privacy laws prohibit us from releasing specific details, but we can say this person left our hospital against medical advice. We are saddened by the tragic turn of events and express our deepest sympathies."
Officer Morgan confirms Mabry also walked with a cane and may have fallen into traffic.
“There are no signs of any type of foul play, any suspicious activity, it looks like it was just a tragic accident,” Morgan said.
