OKCPS Superintendent Says District Grades Report "Unacceptable"

Spring test results are in for Oklahoma City Public Schools, and students fell short of expectations.

In looking at the results across the board for the district, Superintendent Sean McDaniel said the snapshot was, "disappointing and unacceptable. I've spoken with many of our teachers, and I know they feel the same."

According to Oklahoma City Public Schools, 16 percent of students tested in spring scored proficient or better in English and Language Arts; and only 13 percent in math. 

In a recent blog post on the score analysis, McDaniel said he's, "not an "excuses" guy," and  "we can't fix what we don't acknowledge."

Students in the district missed 20 days of school last school year due to Spring Break and the Teacher Walkout.

District data also showed about 80 percent of elementary schools had some students who showed growth in English or Language Arts.

The same data shows 35 percent of elementary schools had students showing growth in Math.

McDaniel said there is no silver bullet for better results but he hopes teacher retention, professional development, and lower student teacher ratios with more one on one attention will help.
