The Edmond hunter who spent the night dodging flames and smoke after getting trapped by wildfires in Dewey County last month has been released from the hospital.
Terry Burleson was released from the burn center at Baptist-Integris Hospital on Saturday.
He has 3rd degree burns on his arms and thought he was going to perish in the flames when he got separated from two friends while scouting hunting locations.
Burleson says he kept moving and praying while being tagged by the fire.
“I believe in our Lord and savior and me and him had some long talks that night,” Burleson said.
Burleson says there were times when he didn’t think he would make it, but a shift in the wind provided a tight window to escape the flames.
Terry credits God for changing the direction of the fire, which allowed him to find a road.
Around 8 a.m. the next morning, oil workers found Terry on the road.
“That’s what got me through, was all the people praying,” Burleson said.
